Many students see summer as a time to rest. But for students preparing for future study abroad plans, summer can also be the right time to explore interests, build direction, and strengthen their profile with purpose.
One Grade 11 IB student came to IvyPrep with strong extracurricular involvement and leadership experience, but still felt unsure about one important question:
“I was involved in many activities, but I did not know how they connected to who I wanted to become.”
The student had done a lot, but needed support to turn those experiences into a clearer academic direction and a stronger personal story.
How IvyPrep Supports Students During Summer
During the summer, IvyPrep coaches students to move from doing activities to building a focused profile.
For this student, the coaching team provided support in key areas:
Career Direction
Reflecting on interests, strengths, values, and past experiences to identify meaningful patterns.
Major Selection
Connecting personal interests with suitable academic fields and future career pathways.
School Research
Learning how to explore universities, programs, requirements, campus culture, and opportunities beyond the classroom.
Extracurricular Strategy
Reviewing current activities and identifying which ones should be developed further for greater depth.
Profile Development
Building a personal e-portfolio to organize achievements, reflections, projects, and experiences.
Networking & Opportunities
Guiding the student on how to connect with professionals, ask meaningful questions, and explore suitable internships, job shadowing, or mentor opportunities.
Through this process, summer became more than simply adding new activities to a profile. It became a period for intentional growth, clearer direction, and strategic preparation.
For students in Grades 9-11, summer is a valuable time to explore interests, plan meaningful activities, and build a profile with depth and purpose.
📩 Canadian International School Counseling and IvyPrep continue to support students in preparing for university applications while helping them better understand themselves, their academic direction, and their future goals.
